Black and White??

A call went out from a lady making and distributing quilts for charity. It was for a QS one. I quickly e-mailed a reply (I thought my friend Linda had one already made) promising to have a top in the mail first thing Tuesday.

I rang Linda to let her know I had volunteered her QS black and white top. She informed me that only 8 nine patches were completed  of the 16 block disappearing 9 patch top .We decided as it was our sewing day Monday we could get it done together.

It became quiet a production line with Linda cutting me sewing and Julie ironing. We thought we were doing so well but on close inspection realised I had sewn the blocks the wrong way. So it was unpicked pinned and sewn together again. WOULD YOU BELIEVE THE WRONG AGAIN!!!!!

Time for a cuppa. Then back to work. Sewing ,trimming ironing. Spread the rows out on the table before sewing them together. NO#*# another one is the wrong way. This time Julie unpicked and pinned I sewed. Spread it out ,YES it is right at last. Lets sew the rows together.

Now it was 4pm so time to go home. Only the borders needed to cut and sewn on. We packed up and I took the top home to be completed.

After tea, dishes and shower I went back to cutting and sewing. Finally at 12.15pm I finished it. Only had to iron the last border.

Guess What I did?????????

Yep!!!!!  Burnt it. So as it was late
and I had had enough. Turned off the iron and light. Then off to bed.

When I got up this morning I unpicked
the border. Cut out the holey bit. Put in a nice new piece and ironed it carefully.

After all the dramas I am very pleased with the result and it went into the mail on time.  YES!!!!!!!!!

My DIY project.

While in Perth I finally bought myself a new computer desk  and matching draws. They came in a flat pack that fitted into my boot.
As DH is away for the long weekend I decided to tackle the job of putting them together myself while I was on my OWN.
The desk was done in no time but
the draws took a little longer.
Firstly I laid all the pieces in alphabetical order on the bed. Then screwed the rollers on the side of draws and inside panels. I got a little confused when the test run on the 1st draw didn't work. Ah, there is a left and right roller!! Read the instructions Maria.1st draw 1 hour/ 2nd draw 20mins/ last one 15mins. Then it was completed in no time. Woo Hooo!!!

Drive Home.

Have been in Perth to spend a few days with my DD2 and my youngest GC. It is a very exciting time for them as they are in the midest of packing. Thier home is going to be demolished and replaced with a big new one. We had a lot of fun together and I really enjoyed my stay.

On the way home I stopped several times to take photos of the beautiful trees and wild flowers. It is always such a picturesque drive this time of year. The rolling hills are green with crops and the sheep look lovely and white grazing in the fields. I am usually in such a hurry and do not really appreciate the views.

Beautiful blooms and all sorts of colours

But the best view of all is at the end of the road. Our marina and the ocean. Now I know I am home!!!!

Scraps of Fabric

I had fun making these pin cushions out of some scraps one of the patch ladies was discarding!!!!!

Day Out with The Red Hatters.

Had a wonderful day out yesterday with our Red Hatters Group the Dongara Dizzy Dames. We are only a small group so we often join the Crimson Butterflies from Geralton.
We met at the Greenough Hamlet Cafe, which is halfway between Dongara and Geralton. The food was delicious and after much chatting and laughter went for a walk around the old village.
I admire the old pioneers it must have been
a really hard life but when you listen to folk
telling the old stories they seem to have had
a lot of good times too.
I think I like my nice new Bernina better!!!
When we finished wandering around the old village we had a Devonshire Tea said goodbye to our friends and made our way home.

Walks among the Wildflowers

Today I went with the exercise group for an outing to see the wildflowers. We all piled on the bus and went for a lovely scenenic drive to the Coleseam about 60kms from Dongara. This is the view from one of the lookouts.
After walks along the paths taking photos of the flowers and chatting some of us needed to find the bush loo. Ah there it is, next to the wattles.
Love the rules posted on the wall behind
Walking along the tracks I see the Galahs up in the old gum trees.Poking thier heads out of the hollows where they are nesting.Another couple are sitting on a branch chatting away to each other
It was time for lunch so we all put our various plates of food on the table. We were very lucky to finish   before the rain came down. It was a mad dash to the bus with all our gear and I did not get a photo of our bountiful table of delicious food.

Hexagons off to Queensland.

A few months ago I got an e-mail from my friend Nicky who is travelling around
Aussie with her DH. While staying with her sisters in Qld they went along to a sewing group and found out about the " The Great Hexagon Challenge". The aim is to get as many people as possible to make hexagons and a group of 5 ladies are putting them together to make the BIGGEST Hexagon Quilt in the world and have it recorded in the Guiness Book of records. They will be displaying what has been completed up to date at the Queensland Quilters Exhibition in Oct 2009.
These are the ones I have made so far and sent on thier way today along with Loris's. (another patch lady)
I am very new to making hexagons but I am enjoying the hand stitching but do not think I would make a quilt for myself.

Slow Going!!

It was a lovely sunny drive to my friends house to do leadlighting today. I am working on a new window to put in my little shed. I decided to do kookaburras this time but it is slow going.

Found I was having a lot of trouble with the leaves. There are just somedays nothing seems to go right and today was one of them. Morning tea sounded good.
Jo's son is over for a holiday and he made delicious muffins with fresh maccadanias from Jo's tree for morning tea.Was a good break and when I returned to my work finally got the leaves to sit in place.

Vintage Cars

When my friend and I went out for a coffee we met a group of vintage car enthusiasts at the car park near our lovely Marina.
The cars were really beautiful restored and cared for. My friend Linda said she remembered he Granddad having one like the maroon car. I just loved the really old truck.

Wow!!!!

As it is "Father's Day" tomorrow thought I would make a chocolate cake for morning tea as it is one of Blue's favorites. Also the family is coming. Problem is I am not the best at baking. Thank goodness for packet cake mixes.
While tea was cooking I prepared the cake mix and had it all ready to pop into the oven when the roast came out.

I keep looking in the oven anxiously as even the packet cake mixes often flop for me. When it was time to take the cake out I was pleasently surprised with the result.
What do you think!!!!!!

Walk to the Point???( Re-run)

After Sue helped me with my blog on Sunday ( poor Sue she was sooo Sick) I decided to go for a walk along the beach.
I like to walk to the piont but as you never get there I have put a marker in a shrub and when I get to it I return. As I have started my blog thought I would take my camera.
Along the way I came across this mollusc and a star fish which has seen better days. Also took a photo of the little peppy shells.Like the ones I have glued on my Summertime Quilt.
It was such a gorgeous day yet I was the only walker on the beach. There were plenty of tracks of the cars that sped by.
